Adam Driver, the 6’3″ actor known for his roles in Star Wars, House of Gucci, and Marriage Story, took the stage for his fourth time hosting Saturday Night Live (SNL) on December 9th, 2023.
Adam Driver’s Joke:
In his opening monologue, Adam Driver addressed a sensitive topic with humor, jokingly stating, “I would like people to stop coming up to me on the street saying, ‘You killed Han Solo! ‘ I didn’t kill him. Wokeness killed Han Solo.”
Adam Driver’s Joke’s Reference:
The joke is a reference to his role as villain Kylo Ren in the “Star Wars” films “The Force Awakens,” “The Last Jedi” and “The Rise of Skywalker.” Kylo kills Han Solo in “The Force Awakens,” a widely controversial storyline among the “Star Wars” fandom.
His playful jab at the ongoing debate surrounding the Star Wars franchise sparked laughter and quickly became a trending topic. This wasn’t the only highlight of Driver’s monologue. He also revealed his Christmas list to Santa, requesting five pairs of Chinos and expressing his disappointment that Santa hasn’t liked SNL since Chris Kattan left the show.
Adam Driver’s Wishes To Santa:
“Well Santa, thank you for listening. I look forward to you breaking into my house,” he concluded, ending the segment with a final complicated musical outro before adding that he got Santa his own present in his new movie Ferrari, which releases on Christmas Day.
The Star Wars alum got into the Christmas spirit and explained why it was his favorite holiday of the year.
“I’m so excited to be back, especially during this time of year,” Adam Driver said during his monologue. “I love Christmas. It’s my favorite holiday, the food, the music, the family… But largely it’s because I have a very deep and personal relationship with Santa.”
After thinking about what else he wanted for Christmas, Adam Driver asks, “You know those TikToks where it’s like those couples who do pranks on each other? Can you kill those people?”
Adam Driver & SNL:
Adam Driver first hosted SNL in 2016, when he appeared in a much-loved skit playing his villainous Star Wars character Kylo Ren moonlighting as a First Order employee for Undercover Boss: Where Are They Now. He later reprised that role for his 2020 return to the NBC comedy series, dressing up as an intern named Randy to uncover how people truly feel about Kylo Ren in Star Destroyer H17.
The episode marks Adam Driver’s fourth time as the host of “Saturday Night Live,” helming the episode alongside musical guest Olivia Rodrigo. Driver first led “SNL” in 2016, when he was joined by Chris Stapleton as musical guest, and returned in 2018 with Kanye West and 2020 with Halsey.
With his comedic timing and versatility, Driver proved once again why he’s a sought-after actor in Hollywood. He’s not just known for his dramatic roles in movies like Ferrari and Marriage Story, but also for his comedic side showcased in SNL and his interview with Chris Wallace.
Adam Driver and Minnie Driver Relationship:
While the relationship between Adam Driver and Minnie Driver isn’t familial, they share the same last name and have both garnered acclaim in their respective acting careers. Adam Driver’s musical talents were also on display when he played the piano during his SNL monologue.
Whether you’re a fan of Star Wars, Marriage Story, or simply want to see a talented actor showcase his comedic skills, Adam Driver’s SNL monologue is worth watching. It’s a reminder of his talent and versatility, and it’s sure to leave you laughing.
